Choose Your Brew

Drip Coffee

  1. MEASURE AND GRIND Use 1 part coffee to 17 parts water (e.g. 28g/4 tbsp coffee for 475ml/16oz water) and grind medium-coarse.
  2. Add water measure filtered water and add to the machine’s reservoir.
  3. Add filter and coffee Place a fresh filter in the brew basket, then add your ground coffee to the filter and level it gently.
  4. Start the brew and let the machine do the work.

French Press

  1. Warm up the press by rinsing it with very hot water.
  2. Measure and grind Measure out 56g (about 8 Tablespoons) of coffee and grind it as coarse as breadcrumbs.
  3. Add water discard the hot water and add coffee into the empty press. Start your count-up timer as soon as you add hot water. Fill it up halfway to the top saturating all the grounds.
  4. Stir At 1:00, use a wooden spoon or spatula to break the top layer we call the crust.
  5. Add more water Now, fill it all the way to the top with water. Put the top on and allow the coffee to brew without pressing it down.
  6. Press At 4:00, you are ready to press. Firmly push the press all the way down.
  7. Serve and enjoy Serve it up. Pour coffee into a carafe immediately to avoid over extraction.

AeroPress

  1. Measure and Grind 17g of coffee - on rounded AeroPress spoonful or about 2 1/2 Tablespoons. Grind the coffee about as fine as table salt.
  2. Prep the AeroPress placing the filter in the basket. Next, preheat the brewer and rinse the filter with hot water.
  3. Add coffee Affix the basket to the bottom of the brew chamber and place it on top of the mug. If it’s handy, use the funnel that comes with the AeroPress to add 17g of coffee. Then, remove the funnel.
  4. Add water Start your timer when you pour hot water (just off the boil or about 205°F) into your brewer. Saturate all the grounds within 10 seconds. Pour to the No. 4 or 220g of water if you’re using a scale. Spin the chamber, making sure all the coffee is saturated.
  5. Place plunger and wait Once you hit the No. 4, stir the “slurry” (coffee and water mixture) and place the plunger on the brew chamber and pull up slightly to create a pressure seal. Don’t plunge yet!
  6. Stir and plunge At 1:15, remove the pressure seal and give the slurry another stir with a spoon or paddle. Put the plunger back on and gently press down with steady pressure, stopping as soon as you hear a hissing sound. This entire brew process should take just under two minutes and yield seven to eight ounces of coffee.
  7. Clean and enjoy

The Story

Founder's Blend is an easy-drinking coffee that shines with sweet, certified organic beans from South and Central America, paired with the depth and complexity of an organic coffee from Sumatra, Indonesia. Every component is grown and processed under meticulous standards, ensuring an organic-certified supply chain from seed to cup. The producers behind this blend devote careful attention to cultivation, picking, and processing, and all of that care ends up in the clean, full-bodied, chocolatey goodness in every cup.

FAQ

  • Like a really good cup of diner coffee that went off and got an education. Founder's Blend is smooth and chocolate-forward, with tasting notes of vanilla, cocoa, and honey. Our Lead Coffee Educator Zack Willhoff calls it a tried and true workhorse, with rich chocolate and honey sweetness and a touch of earthiness. It is deep and comforting rather than bright or fruity, which is why it works at 7am and again at 3pm.
  • Founder's Blend is a dark roast, though it is the friendly kind. The longer roast builds cocoa and toasted sweetness and gives the cup a heavier body with lower acidity, all without tipping into smoke or bitterness. That depth is also why it holds its own in a French press, a drip machine, or an AeroPress.
  • Yes. Every coffee in this blend is certified organic, grown and processed within an organic-certified supply chain from seed to cup. That is a lot of paperwork for something you drink in four minutes, and we think it is worth it.
  • Founder's Blend sits just on the soft side of the middle of our acidity scale. Being a dark roast, it has less acidity than a lighter cup, so it suits people who find bright coffees a little sharp first thing in the morning. There is still enough there to keep it lively rather than flat.
  • Every blend is a recipe, and this one needs a bass line. The organic beans from Central and South America bring the sweetness along with the cocoa and honey notes. The organic Sumatran coffee adds body and a touch of earthy depth that keeps the cup grounded. Pulling from more than one region is how we make a coffee that tastes the same every single morning.
  • Founder's Blend was built for the everyday, so your drip machine is the easiest place to start. Use 1 part coffee to 17 parts water and let the machine do the work. A French press pulls out more body if you want something richer, and an AeroPress makes a concentrated cup in under two minutes when the morning is already getting away from you. Full instructions for each live in our French press and AeroPress brew guides
  • Common belief, and it goes the other way. Dark roasts have a touch less caffeine by volume than lighter roasts, because the longer roast burns a little of it off. The difference is small enough that you will never notice it in the cup, so drink Founder's Blend the way you drink any coffee and expect the usual lift.
